Mazda Could Still Build A Production RX Vision With A Rotary Engine
When Mazda revealed its stunning RX Vision concept last year, we dared to believe a production version might be built. Hell, Mazda even hinted that it was a strong possibility. It’s pretty much been a case of radio silence since then, so is it still on the agenda? Judging by Topgear.com’s interview with Mazda Design Director Tom Rice at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa D’Este - where the concept was displayed - it’s still looking like it could happen.
“We’d love to build it,” Rice confirms, adding: “[At] an event like this, you’re together with Aston Martins, classic Ferraris and so on, and in a sense, we feel like we’re guests and we don’t really belong…But everyone is telling us that it doesn’t matter, because the RX is so beautiful. They say: don’t worry about anything, just go and build it”. So Mazda wants to built it, but will it actually go and do it? It’s all down to the engine.
While the concept is just a show car and not a runner, its low bonnet was penned with a rotary engine in mind. And a new rotary engine hasn’t been ruled out. “We didn’t just leave it [the rotary engine] with the RX-8….In the back rooms at Mazda, we’re still developing it, and when the world’s ready to buy another rotary, we’ll be ready to provide it.”
So, do you feel ready, world? Make enough noise and Mazda might at last make this thing…

but the problem when this vehicle going to public sale……everyone gonna makes LS Swap into it ;(…….
What Mazda should do is put on a huge amount of emissions equipment so it passes BUT make sure it’s easily removable so that owners can swap in a “race” exhaust and EGR delete :D
