The Mazda RX-9 Could Be A 400bhp Rotary Weapon
After teasing the world with the RX-Vision concept earlier this year, Mazda has got the ball rolling again with plans to reveal a successor to the RX-8 at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
Japanese website Holiday Auto has managed to get some inside information on the car, and the stats make for epic reading. The RX-9 could feature a 1.6-litre, twin-rotor turbocharged powertrain which should be good for at least 400bhp of rotary scream.
Those figures would make the RX-9 the most powerful production car ever produced by Mazda, but all this power will seemingly come at a cost. Estimations sit at around $80,000 (£60,500) which would make it nearly three-times the price of an RX-8. But for a return to rotary power for Mazda, I’m sure we’d be willing to pay the price!
Mazda has already trademarked the RX-9 badge, so fingers-crossed we will see a new rotary king by the end of the decade.

I can’t say I’m very surprised. In today’s money, the 1994 RX7 costed over $64,000 new. So the additional 16 grand is reasonable for a modern rotary. People need to realize that these old JDM cars came at a price!
Really “ I’m sure we’d be willing to pay the price!” come on thats such an ingnorent thing to say. $45,000 to maybe….. $50,000
The front will probably look like the new mx5 (which is similar to the rx vision) and the back will probably look like the rx vision too
1.6 L produces AT LEAST 400 BHP. Rotary engine rules..
ROTARY NOOOOOO
Well, at least they gave us enough time to save up for this XD
$80K…first, the NSX; then, the ‘upcoming’ Supra; now this. smh
sources say the RX-9 will have a two rotor Wankel engine with one turbo, so this car is really going to wankel, teenagers be jealous.
I said this months ago and people told me I was buggin
But,I hope the American people try to NOT LS Swap the engine…..
