The Mazda RX-9 Could Be A 400bhp Rotary Weapon

After sparking the rumour mill into life after the RX-Vision, Mazda has revealed plans for a new rotary legend in 2019
The Mazda RX-9 Could Be A 400bhp Rotary Weapon

After teasing the world with the RX-Vision concept earlier this year, Mazda has got the ball rolling again with plans to reveal a successor to the RX-8 at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.

Japanese website Holiday Auto has managed to get some inside information on the car, and the stats make for epic reading. The RX-9 could feature a 1.6-litre, twin-rotor turbocharged powertrain which should be good for at least 400bhp of rotary scream.

Those figures would make the RX-9 the most powerful production car ever produced by Mazda, but all this power will seemingly come at a cost. Estimations sit at around $80,000 (£60,500) which would make it nearly three-times the price of an RX-8. But for a return to rotary power for Mazda, I’m sure we’d be willing to pay the price!

Mazda has already trademarked the RX-9 badge, so fingers-crossed we will see a new rotary king by the end of the decade.

Whats the point of bring back the cars if you make them borderlines with supercars? These cars were about the tuning and uniqueness. Starting low and building a ample engine and chassis up. Now they just start up,which i understand, just dont want to pay their developement fees. Stop shooting for the moon and K.I.S.S (Keep it simple stupid) Innovate but dont remove the car from 90% of the enthusiasts that loved it originally #rantdone

So it’ll be positioned like the FD RX7 was. A serious sports car to take on Porsche’s. Because that didn’t really work the RX8 was intentionally priced at a lower level.

I think it is not that long. I mean, the rx vision is long but the concept car doesn’t look as long. It’s hard to tell because of the angle the photo was taken. BTW, love how the tail resembles the rx7. Come on Mazda, just do it the best you can.

Does no one recall that the RX-7 was never a cheap car? When the FD came out it had a base price of $38k, inflation puts that at $58k.

Is it just me, or do those rear lights look like they kind of resemble the shape of the RX-7 rear lights?

I think it should compete with cars like the 370z Nismo and other cars like that.
The price would be better around $45k
