The roof can be opened or closed in 12 seconds at speeds up to 6 mph, and stows compactly like the soft top.

In North America, the 2017 MX-5 RF will come standard with the Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter I-4, which produces 155 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque in the soft-top variant. The Skyactiv-G 1.5-liter I-4 will be the standard engine in global markets such as Europe and Asia. Expect the MX-5 RF to come standard with a six-speed manual transmission while a six-speed automatic should be an option.

But how does the retractable hardtop look like when it’s working? Well… I’ll tell you how it looks… A M A Z I N G!

That was my exact reaction when I saw that retractable hardtop working! I love cars that use the Targa like mechanism.

They didn’t need to make this. But they did anyway. Stunningly gorgeous. I hope this doesn’t add much weight.

From what I’ve read online they didn’t make any statement about the weight, but I suspect it won’t be 50-50 anymore.

This looks really nice. Mazda made a good job in the design department. Let’s hope the weight distribution is not affected to much.

In my opinion, the only drawbacks are the lack of both cupholders on the central console and glove compartment.
Also, I’d love to see a version with carbon fibre inserts on the inside. And no plastic.
