Mercedes-AMG Is Going 911 GT2-Hunting With The GT Black Series

Big changes have been spotted on the latest AMG GT test car to be spotted at the Nurburgring, focused on a new exhaust system and diffuser, and a rumour that its power will climb to 911 GT2 levels...

The camouflage is slowly dropping off the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, so take a look at the extreme new range-topper in its near-production guise.

After a test mule was spotted last month, there have been some serious changes. That one was using a GT R body with the central exhausts and more body roll, but this green machine looks stiffer, tauter and has massive exhausts moved out towards the sides of the car to make room for a more effective diffuser.

It also makes a hellish noise, as you can tell from the video. The performance bar has been set high by the Porsche 911 GT2, which pumps out 88bhp more than the current most powerful version of the GT’s 4.0-litre AMG V8, so it should be interesting to see how close to the GT2’s 691bhp AMG can get.

A fixed rear wing is confirmed Black Series spec, while other areas of the bodywork take direct inspiration from the AMG GT4 racing car. The track-biased special will be the fastest and most extreme GT ever, and AMG won’t want to be outdone – especially not by Porsche.
