The Mid-Engined Chevrolet Corvette C8 Will Be Here In 2019
The idea of a mid-engine Corvette has been considered for years. We had the Aerovette concept way back in the 1970s, and the C7 ‘Vette may well have ended up having a mid-engine layout if it wasn’t for General Motor’s financial woes at the time of its inception. However, it’s at last happening.
Recent spy shots (above) appeared to show a mid-engine Corvette test mule, and now we even have an ETA. Citing multiple sources “familiar with the company’s planning,” Detroit News reports that the C8 - codenamed ‘Emperor’ - will be here in 2019, speculating that the switch to a mid-ship power plant is down to Chevrolet wanting to attract younger buyers.
The C8’s arrival won’t immediately kill off the C7. According to Detroit News, the Z06 and Grand Sport models will continue until 2021, at which point the front-engine Corvette will become a thing of the past.

“…until 2021, at which point the front-engine Corvette will become a thing of the past.”
If this is true then,welp…
Viper… Corvette… now what?
I’ll believe it when I see it at a dealership
We need Derek D’s ‘I’ll care more when I actually see it’ folder :D oh wait…
So in attracting younger buyer, GM has abandon their core customer which is older generation man who have owned every single corvette model since their teenage days and not interested in owning a mid engine car
They’ll be killing the Corvette if they go through with this, then. :-(
Whats the point of making the same thing year after year for decades? There’s a limit to what engine different engine platforms can do. And it turns out the mid-engine design is better.
it would be really funny if they use the crate engine that is in the Ford GT
I think they should make an upmarket one with a mid engine to compete with the likes of the r8. And sell a normal layout alongside it.
Mid-engine corvette? You mean a Nsx with a V8 xD
Do you want a mid-engine C8? Can’t wait till 2019? Well i have some good news for you.
This thing has always looked slightly riced…

Mid engined corvette coming?
instead of kill the front-engine Corvette, why can we have both?
Or even better; a front mid-engine car. It’s literally both in one.
It’ll be the same thing that happens with other auto makers. For example, Audi introduced the R8 with a V8 to combat the base 911. Then it got the V10, now the new one is a V10 only. And Audi have suddenly said “oh we have nothing to compete with a 911”, so they’re gonna make an R6 (or whatever they’ll call it) which is basically what the R8 used to be.
BMW did it too. 3 series got bigger and bigger, until it was basically a 5 series. So the 1 series (and MINI) happened.
I guess we have to W8 for the C8
the c8 looks like gud b8 m8, cant w8 to r8 it 8/8
Plot twist, it ends up being a front mid-ship layout
R.I.P legit corvette sidewaysness
Dammit my GIF doesn’t work
