The New Ford Mustang GT500 Packs A 750bhp Supercharged V8 Punch

Ford has finally revealed the power and torque outputs for the Shelby GT500's supercharged V8

Ford revealed its new Mustang GT500 way back in January, but we’re only just learning the power output. Was it worth the wait? We’d say so.

It’s at last been confirmed that the 5.2-litre supercharged V8 develops 750bhp (760hp) and 625lb ft of torque. This makes it “the most powerful street-legal Ford ever - with the most power- and torque-dense supercharged production V8 engine in the world…Enough said.”

Enough said? Well, we’d also like to know exactly where that power and torque is developed, Ford, and how quickly the GT500 accelerates. On the latter point, we can expect it to hit the benchmark 60mph mark in about three and a half seconds, even if we don’t have a precise figure yet. The Blue Oval has at least revealed that the GT500 will be limited to 180mph.

That’s awfully fast, but a lot slower than many of the GT500’s rivals. The justification is that Ford’s engineers have focused on on-track capability rather than outright bragging rights. After all, what’s the point in a top speed that owners won’t be able to reach on the vast majority of the world’s circuits?

Speaking of on-track capability, that should be the GT500’s forte. It’s been given a specific set of MagneRide dampers, adjustable camber plates, and giant Brembo brakes. The aero is getting on for FIA GT4-spec, and the optional carbonfibre wheels come wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 semi-slicks.

You want one, don’t you?

The naturally-aspirated version of the 5.2L V8 also sounds absolutely heavenly
If this one sounds the same but with supercharger whine it might be the best sounding engine of the decade

If you are referring to the GT350, that car’s voodoo engine has a different firing order than this due to it’s flat-plane crank. I’m fairly certain this will have a cross-plane crank. Unless you are referring to the new 5.2 crate engine Ford announced. I haven’t heard that one yet.

Either way, I’m certain this will not disappoint in the audio department. I mean, it’s the GT500.

5.2 DOHC + supercharger = 750hp
6.2 OHV + supercharger = 707hp
Told ya DOHC is superior

And the former is made out of aluminum so it doesn’t weigh 750000 pounds either

This car is absolutely amazing! The power figures and the rumbling noise makes me fall in love with it even more. However, I do have a problem with the design; the front end seems changed to allow a large grill and many more intricacies but the rear seems unseemingly and disappointingly unchanged. I think the regular ‘stang looks great, but this crazy monster deserves a crazy rear-end! Thoughts?
