The New Mustang GT500 Could Have Well Over 700bhp

Ford is currently in the process of developing its GT500 Mustang and aims to create the most powerful muscle car currently on sale.

Taking on the 707bhp-Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, Ford Performance has been seen testing a twin-turbocharged variant of the current Mustang’s 5.0-litre V8 predicted to produce in the region of 740bhp.

Despite the engine being downsized from the GT350’s 5.2-litre power unit, the use of forced induction should see the GT500 take the title that Ford is yearning for. If the rumours are true, the new GT500 will sit around 80bhp above the previous generation car and nearly 100bhp over the 2017 Camaro ZL1.

The Mustang GT500 is expected to go on sale at the tail-end of 2016, with prices unspecified as of yet.

Horsepower v Torque in Mustangs
Horsepower is how fast you hit the crowd
Torque is how many people you plow through

At this point, they should have an option for drag radials just to get traction.

To be honest, you don’t really need 700hp to take on a hellfat. The thing weighs over 2 tons anyway. 650hp and 1.5 tons, and some nice wide tires.
