We’ve featured a huge variety of different motorsport-related things that are about to go under the hammer - be it cars, helmets or race suits - but never a whole race track like this. The circuit in question is Kyalami on the outskirts of Johannesburg, which is famous for holding the South African Grand Prix from 1967-1985, and again from 1992-1993.

It’s been the scene of some significant moments in Formula 1 history. One of the worst crashes ever seen in the sport occured at the 1977 South African Grand Prix, in which driver Tom Price and marshal Jansen Van Vuuren were killed. It’s also well known for the South African stopover of the 1985 season, when F1 courted controversy by holding an F1 race in the country at the height of Apartheid, leading to boycotts from various teams and drivers.

F1 returned to Kyalami for the 1992 and 1993 seasons, and the circuit was used more recently for World Superbike racing and the Super Stars series. The entire 178 acre property is being auctioned on 24 July.
