Ross Brawn Set To Leave Mercedes F1 Team After 2013 Season Finale

Ross Brawn looks set to leave the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team at the end of the season after four years as team principal, the BBC report.

The 58 year old was a big part of Benetton and Ferrari dominance in the mid 1990s and early 2000s, before he moved to Honda in 2008 after a brief sabbatical. The Japanese firm pulled out of the sport at the end of the year, leading to Brawn's buy-out of the team. Brawn GP took the 2009 title double before it was bought by Mercedes in November 2009.

The hiring of former McLaren technical director Paddy Lowe, and the team's belief that a single team principal is an outdated concept in modern F1, has led to his exit. The team will be run by executive directors Lowe and Toto Wolff and non-executive director Niki Lauda next season.

Sources close to the team say an agreement between Brawn and Mercedes on him moving to a new role within the team couldn't be reached. His future at the team has been the talk of the paddock for the past few months. He is currently being linked to roles at Honda's new F1 programme, the FIA or McLaren.
