Say Hello To The Ballistic 200mph Jaguar F-Type SVR

Jaguar has revealed all of the juicy details of the new, 200mph Jaguar F-Type SVR. This makes for some interesting reading...
Say Hello To The Ballistic 200mph Jaguar F-Type SVR

The Jaguar F-Type R is one of the most beautiful cars currently on sale, but it has always lacked the pure dynamic polish of its direct rival, the Porsche 911 GTS. Which is a shame, because Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVR) skunkworks showed the true potential of the F-Type platform with the uber exclusive Project 7 (all 250 examples were quickly scooped up by collectors). If you really wanted a hardcore GT car, then, you had to look somewhere else. Until now.

Filling the gaping hole in Jaguar’s line-up is the new F-Type SVR, which will make its debut at the Geneva motor show next month. Thanks to a mistake by a German Jaguar dealership which accidentally leaked an SVR brochure, we saw some of the new car’s key stats earlier in the month, but Jaguar has now released the official details.

The car is still a portly beast, weighing 1705kg for the coupe and 1720kg for the convertible; that represents a loss of 25kg over the F-Type R AWD. However, we expect that the revised 5.0-litre supercharged V8 should mask this weight quite nicely, with the engine cranking out 567bhp and 516lb ft of torque. The SVR retains the standard car’s four-wheel drive system and eight-speed automatic gearbox, allowing the SVR to crack 62mph in supercar-rivalling 3.5 seconds. Oh, and did we mention that the SVR will be able to hit 200mph? An enhanced aerodynamics package which includes a new front bumper, splitter, flat underfloor, carbonfibre active rear wing and rear venturi should also help to keep everything under control on those spontaneous autobahn blasts.

To cope with the extra power (25bhp over the standard R), the chassis has received some major revisions, including new dampers, anti-roll bars and stiffer rear knuckles. The car also receives new calibrations for the four-wheel drive system, gearbox, power steering and stability control systems. A new Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brake system is also available, which is just as well, because we can only imagine that stopping a 1705kg from 200mph is going to take some serious effort.

Order books have just opened, so if you want to bag yourself one of these beautiful GT cars, expect to pay £110,000 for the SVR coupe and £115,485 for the convertible. Cars are expected to be delivered just in time for summer.

We can’t wait to see how this stacks up against the lesser, but still absolutely fantastic, F-Type R.

May I ask why? I know rear wheel drive is good for hooning but to put that amount of power down in even dry conditions your really need that extra grip and if it were rear wheel drive it wouldn’t make that much of a difference in comparison to a standard r

1.7 tonnes? I think there’s something else in the way from jaguar, perhaps a 1.5 tonne F-Type.
