Should You Always Press The Handbrake Button?

The E-brake is basically the same system as a bicycle brake system. Only difference is cars have a locking system and heavier duty parts. Now if you use the E-brake on a normal everyday drive for corners and sliding around that will put wear on the cables, brakes, rotors, and tires. The button is just for unlocking the E-brake.

The thing to think about when thinking about wear, is that what causes wear and really wear is caused by heat.

Say that again please?

I’ve always just pulled it up without using the button and never understood why people on here said it’s a car guy pet peeve.

I just press the button because I don’t like the sound it makes.
But I could never understand why people thought that it wore it down any more.
I’m gonna use the ratchet analogy next time somebody brings it up.

To be honest I had never heard this debate until the car throttle video pointed it out. Everyone I knew just pulled up on the handle without pressing the button first.

Besides I’d say this was busted by the parking brake pedal which in most designs can be rather difficult to press while pulling the release at the same time and they make a very similar ratchet sound :D.
