The Skoda Epiq Is The Czech Firm’s New Baby EV

Are we entering a golden age for the (relatively) affordable small EV? The Dacia Spring has just been refreshed and it looks promising, and we’ll finally be getting it in the UK, while the reinvented Citroen C3 is seemingly going to be a formidable competitor. Now Skoda is getting in on the action with a new baby EV.

This is the Skoda Epiq, although it also isn’t at the same time. Rather, this is a design study that’s going to lay the foundations for a new crossover that’s going to arrive in 2025. It should look pretty similar, albeit with some details softened up a bit to make a 25,000 euro price target (approx. £21,000) feasible.

We do hope (and expect) the T-shape head- and taillights will go into production which would be quite a departure from any current Skoda, and maybe hint at what the future of its design direction will be.

The trademark grille (if you can even call it that, anymore) is almost certainly going to remain intact although we’d anticipate a less dramatic take on the eight-slot lower cladding on the bumpers. We’re presuming the final thing will have smaller wheels, too.

We’re yet to see full renders of the interior, although the initial sketches Skoda is showing don’t seem too far from a production-ready cabin. As is typical these days, it appears most functions are housed within a massive infotainment screen. It seems a little against the more affordable angle the Epiq is being pitched at, but we’d imagine lower-spec models might use a smaller display.

Naturally, technical details are a little scarce as the production car is still in development but Skoda has said it’ll be 4.1 metres long (matching that of the current Fabia), have “plenty of space” for five people and offer a 490-litre boot capacity. Battery info hasn’t been stated yet, but Skoda is targeting a range of over 248 miles on a charge.
