Someone Has Turned Two Suzuki Jimnys Into A Slammed Hummer

Modified Suzuki Jimnys are a dime a dozen, but merging two to create another car entirely is a new one for us

Tokyo Auto Salon is prime ground for modified Suzuki Jimnys, with a pair reworked to cosplay a Renault 5 Turbo and Lancia Delta Integrale arguably stealing the show this year. However, that wasn’t the only duo of the cute 4x4 to make an appearance at the show - and not a patch on how extreme this bonkers creation is.

Yes, this NATS Shakotan J1 is a mishmash of two second-gen examples of the 4x4 stitched together to create one, twisted Hummer Jimnypede. More specifically, the J1 uses the chassis from a Suzuki Escudo with the Jimnys effectively stretched and welded side-by-side together - yet the look is quite seamless. Extra marks for going for that yellow paint seen on the Hummer H2, as well.

Power comes in the form of a 2.5-litre V6 lifted from the Escudo rather than a rattly-old four-pot from the tiny 4x4. It’s only good for 160bhp but, mind you, with how slammed this thing is on its air suspension, we’re not sure you’d want to go fast it anyway. Nor take on any off-road trails, for that matter.

A brief glance at the interior reveals not a lot has been changed over a regular Escudo, until you get to the boot, however. A Pimp My Ride-esque 12-speaker set up with a pair of amps sourced from Diecock fills out the rear of the car. Perhaps that’s not all that surprising when you discover the car has been built by a team of students, with this coming from a group at Nippon Automobile College.

If you’d prefer your Jimny to remain a functional 4x4 and still mimic another, you’ve got a few options. Check out this Damd example which takes on the looks of the old-school Land Rover Defender, or Liberty Walk’s take at turning it into a baby Mercedes G-Class.
