12 people have been left injured following a terrifying flash fire at the Red CentreNATS show in Australia’s Northern Territory.
The incident occurred during a burnout display on Sunday afternoon, which saw a car spray burning fuel into a crowd of spectators. 11 of the 12 injured spectators were taken to hospital.
One 47-year-old man suffered critical injuries, with burns to 20 per cent of his body. The man’s 19-year-old son is among the eight people said to be in a stable condition in hospital as of Monday morning.
In a statement, the event’s organisers said: “This is a distressing situation, however all patients are receiving the care they need.” The competition was cancelled immediately after the fire, and police are currently investigating what went wrong.
A great deal of us take huge pleasure from attending car events, so it’s disheartening to see one end like this. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery for all those involved.

One thing I think we can all be happy about is the positivity of some of the patients that recognized that this was perhaps an inevitable accident and the positive attitude the recovering patients have. I only wish them a speedy recovery and hope that positivity stays strong

Those cars have engaged (insert triggering joke here ) mode
And thats why you dont do burnouts a couple of feet from a crowd. Glad to hear there wasnt any serious burns from that
Saw it on the news today. They should install concrete barriers or something similar solid for future events to avoid this happening again. It would be better for flames to shoot directly up than underneath the barrier and into the crowd
