This Speeding Train Sliced Through A Truck Like It Was Made Of Paper

Shocking footage of last year's Studénka train crash has emerged, showing the moment a truck stopped on a level crossing and was hit by a train travelling at 88mph

This horrific crash happened last July just up the line from Studénka train station in the Czech Republic. The truck driver - Polish national Slawomir Sondaj - ignored both visual and audible warnings of the approaching train when crossing onto the track, leaving him ‘trapped’ between the barriers. However, the accident could have been avoided by him simply driving through the barriers, which are designed to be easily breakable. Instead, he merely moved the lorry forward slightly to keep the cab clear of the tracks.

This saved Sondaj’s life, but as the a train hit the trailer at 88mph - the driver having braked from 99mph upon seeing the obstruction - part of the lorry’s cargo of aluminium sheeting penetrated the leading carriage, causing three deaths and 17 injuries, as well as significant damage to Studénka station.

Sondaj was completely unharmed, but now faces anything up to 10 years in prison for public endangerment.

Yes, the truck driver is an idiot. But that being said, nobody seems to have any beef with the guy driving the train who was speeding. Trains have rules and laws which they have to follow too. The train was originally going 100mph! (ok ok 99mph). That’s way too stupid fast for the crossing. I don’t know what it is there, but in my country, train crossings with the automatic arms that go down, like in this video, trains have to slow down for them to 45mph. The train operator should be held in at equal responsibility for the injuries and deaths.
Yes, the truck should have drove through the barrier arms, but even if it had tried, it sure doesn’t look like it would have been able to get through in time anyhow.

In the UK trains cross crossings like these at over 100mph a couple of miles from my house there is a crossing where the line speed is 125mph

The driver had more then 20 seconds to get away from the track counting from when the boom barrier drops, a proper driver could have done it with time to spare.

Yes, because the rules in your country are the rules for everywhere. If the train driver was speeding, then it would have said that the train driver was speeding. Perhaps, it may occur to you, that the train driver was travelling at the speed limit for what that line is? Apparently not, though.

That stupid a..e should have his license permanently removed….even a very tiny electric car can drive through the boom barrier with ease, its what its designed for when a vehicle is trapped.
