This Speeding Train Sliced Through A Truck Like It Was Made Of Paper

Shocking footage of last year's Studénka train crash has emerged, showing the moment a truck stopped on a level crossing and was hit by a train travelling at 88mph

This horrific crash happened last July just up the line from Studénka train station in the Czech Republic. The truck driver - Polish national Slawomir Sondaj - ignored both visual and audible warnings of the approaching train when crossing onto the track, leaving him ‘trapped’ between the barriers. However, the accident could have been avoided by him simply driving through the barriers, which are designed to be easily breakable. Instead, he merely moved the lorry forward slightly to keep the cab clear of the tracks.

This saved Sondaj’s life, but as the a train hit the trailer at 88mph - the driver having braked from 99mph upon seeing the obstruction - part of the lorry’s cargo of aluminium sheeting penetrated the leading carriage, causing three deaths and 17 injuries, as well as significant damage to Studénka station.

Sondaj was completely unharmed, but now faces anything up to 10 years in prison for public endangerment.

One of the best examples of a how dumb a person can possibly be behind the wheel. I’ve seen some pretty stupid sh*t in person, and online, but this is certainly up there with the best of them. Who in the right mind would think it’s the best choice to stop on a train track? Did he have a stroke all of a sudden?

His ignorance caused 3 people to die and many more injuries. He should be serving life. That’s where someone that stupid should be spending their life anyways as they’re a danger to the public. #Rantover

Imagine the panic that must’ve ensued for that poor truck driver. Me in that position would be scared for my life and would probably bail out. Also, I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one that didn’t know the barriers were easily breakable. Anyway he probably wouldn’t be able to remember that fact in the panic that he was

Why not driving it through the pole instead ruining the truck and the train

That’s why in germany the barriers dont close all together, but only one half, then after 15s the other one, so you have time to leave the crossing, even if you’ve ignored the frikin red lights.

who in their right mind would worry more about denting and scraping a truck up on some railroad crossings VS a speeding train? I just don’t get it.
Besides, 88mph, someone should’ve traveled through time at this point…
