Today's Community Question: Which car stereotypes are the most unwarranted?

The automotive community is a supportive network of car guys/girls who all share the same passion for four wheels. But that doesn’t stop us disagreeing from time to time, with many of these disagreements stemming from common stereotypes.

The automotive community is a supportive network of car guys/girls who all share the same passion for four wheels. But that doesn’t stop us disagreeing from time to time, with many of these disagreements stemming from common stereotypes. I mean, how many times have you heard that ‘MX-5s are for hairdressers’ or that ‘all Hondas are ricers’?

Granted these quips can be funny, and they’re usually made in good jest (we’ve done it plenty), but we want to know which stereotypes CTzens think are unfair and undeserved? Let us know in the comments below!

If you drive a car nicer than mine you have a small wiener, or something along those lines

French cars are unreliable, it’s not true. German are not any better.

i will say that the peugots ive worked on are less reliable than the vw and bmw ive worked on, but the worst are the italian small cars (fiat, alfa romeo etc.)

It’s the labour time required for the same job that pisses me off with most French cars in comparison!

True, but changing the belts on a Peugeot is absolute hell on earth. How can such a small engine be placed so awkwardly. I swear, the V8 in the Audi A8 is easier to service than a French car…
But I do agree, reliability is on about the same level (depending on the given model, of course). Though, at least over here in Bulgaria, it’s cheaper to own a German car than it is to own a French car. My 1.8 A4 costs about as much to maintain as a Ford Focus, or a Renault Clio. It’s freaking weird how that works here.

Oh and the stereotype that BMW drivers don’t use turn signals. It’s rubbish, I have seen 2 of them using blinkers in 2 days. Mind you, one was going straight with a blinker so maybe they don’t know how to use it :P

And the other one in the middle of the road with emergency lights on? That doesn’t count

Most of French people don’t use their blinkers, and they don’t drive a BMW but Peugeot, Renault or Citroen…

The one that gets me the most is that “Asians can’t drive”

All Hondas are rice burners in the original sense of the phrase. They’re rice burners because they come from asia where everyone eats rice…it could stop being used as a derogatory term though…
