Today's Community Question: Which car stereotypes are the most unwarranted?
The automotive community is a supportive network of car guys/girls who all share the same passion for four wheels. But that doesn’t stop us disagreeing from time to time, with many of these disagreements stemming from common stereotypes.
The automotive community is a supportive network of car guys/girls who all share the same passion for four wheels. But that doesn’t stop us disagreeing from time to time, with many of these disagreements stemming from common stereotypes. I mean, how many times have you heard that ‘MX-5s are for hairdressers’ or that ‘all Hondas are ricers’?
Granted these quips can be funny, and they’re usually made in good jest (we’ve done it plenty), but we want to know which stereotypes CTzens think are unfair and undeserved? Let us know in the comments below!

I’m not sure if this works in oter countries, but at least in Colombia is common to think that Toyota SUV’s drivers have authority problems…
“You cannot be classed a proper petrol head until you have owned an Alfa Romeo” is quite undeserved. I already had my share of unreliable driving fun in the shape of a Megane RS 225
Mustang owners don’t know how to handle their cars
“British cars are unreliable.” No, they’re not. Not for what they are. Ffs people they stopped making proper cars from scratch before the 90’s hahha. And even then they were using old engine designs. The truth is their engine designs were so good to start with they didn’t actually need to change them! (A-series I’m looking at you.)
“Toyota’s are indestructible.” They used to be, yes. Not anymore though. Made of bloody tinfoil hahha
bmw’s and audi’s are driven by corrupt bussinesmen assholes?
The TVR reliability ones
that being a ricer is necessarily a bad thing, and BMW drivers are assholes.
Loud cars/big trucks = tiny penis. It’s childish to say “he must have a tiny penis” just because someone indulges in a hobby they have…
Old American cars don’t handle. While partly true, They were never “great hadling cars” but if you compare late 60’s Muscle to late 60’s BMW, or Nissan, or Subaru, or Toyota, muscle will outperform in every aspect, unless you are racing at gokart track.
Also same goes for fuel consumption, while you can’t expect to have +5l V8 to go on as small amount of fuel as -2l inline 4, But if you get that V8 going to let’s say 22mpg, shouldtn’t you expect that inline 4 to go at least 50+ mpg
I hate the stereotype towards WRX drivers. As an owner of a WRX, I experience this firsthand. Everyone always assumes that they are as*hole drivers, racing around and cutting people off. I am definitely not this way, if there is traffic I will be driving courteously just like any other driver.
