It’s facelift time for the Toyota GT86, and unlike a lot of modern mid-life refreshes, the rear-wheel drive sports car’s changes are actually relatively significant. We have a whole new front bumper featuring a much larger intake, a new set of LED headlights and a new alloy wheel design.

The chassis has been lightly fettled too, with retuned shock absorbers and revised spring rates. The interior gets new leather/Alcantara upholstery and soft-touch suede door trims, or new cloth upholstery with contrasting silver stitching depending on what you spec. Not that we know what any of that looks like, as interior images haven’t been revealed just yet.

The 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated flat-four remains the same, which means 197bhp and 151lb ft at your disposal. The US-spec version however - which will be called the Toyota 86 - does get a cheeky 5bhp and 5lb ft boost.

The car will make its public debut at the New York Auto Show, and is expected to go on sale later this year.

What do you think of the GT86’s new look?

I’ll definitely wait for someone to bin their new 86 to take their headlights and taillights. Now here’s the real question is switch the badges to Toyota GT86 or leave it as Scion FRS and confuse the hell out of people.

Why is this car still being talked about? It needs to come out with some decent power before it can be considered a sports car

The MX5 is a sports car and only makes 155HP in the US Spec version..
Power doesn’t make it a sports car..
Actually most of the British sports cars of long ago had NO power at all.. But were still sports cars..

Say what you want but it wouldn’t look like sh*t if Scion was in control of the car that THEY pitched and designed. And something to CT, DON’T CENSOR WHAT I CAN SAY!!!

Scion is a daughter Company of Toyota. Toyota and Subaru developed and designed the car cooperatively. Other than the name in the US and being a daughter of Toyota, Scion has nothing to do with the car. So what the f*ck are you talking about?
