It’s facelift time for the Toyota GT86, and unlike a lot of modern mid-life refreshes, the rear-wheel drive sports car’s changes are actually relatively significant. We have a whole new front bumper featuring a much larger intake, a new set of LED headlights and a new alloy wheel design.

The chassis has been lightly fettled too, with retuned shock absorbers and revised spring rates. The interior gets new leather/Alcantara upholstery and soft-touch suede door trims, or new cloth upholstery with contrasting silver stitching depending on what you spec. Not that we know what any of that looks like, as interior images haven’t been revealed just yet.

The 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated flat-four remains the same, which means 197bhp and 151lb ft at your disposal. The US-spec version however - which will be called the Toyota 86 - does get a cheeky 5bhp and 5lb ft boost.

The car will make its public debut at the New York Auto Show, and is expected to go on sale later this year.

What do you think of the GT86’s new look?

How’ve they managed to make the front of the car look that ugly? This is Lexus levels of terrible. The rear does look better though.

All you need to do to these is add one of the many available supercharger kits (which can be done with a basic tool kit and a jigsaw.. or hacksaw if you’re desperate) and you have a 260 hp 2900lb sports car that’s just as fun to drive as OEM (only better) and costs barely $30k. Not a bad gig.
