BMW and Toyota's sports car joint venture looks set to gain Bavarian internal combustion power supplement by electric motors
Toyota Supra Rumour Mill Latest Suggests A BMW Engine With Hybrid Power

With the name recently trademarked, it’s looking increasingly likely that Toyota’s end of a joint sports car venture with BMW will indeed be called the Supra. Naturally, that news sent JDM loving car fans into complete and utter meltdown, but now we’ve had a little time to ruddy well calm down, let’s take a look at what else we can expect.

According to an (admittedly pretty speculative) report in Auto Express, we’re looking at an engine from BMW powering the rear wheels, with Toyota-developed motors powering the fronts via a lithium ion battery. The cells will be fed with juicy regenerative braking, motorsport-style. Also in a Toyota first, the car will also get a dual-clutch gearbox, rather than the firm’s infuriating CVT ‘box.

Interestingly, the report also claims the Toyota sports car will be longer than the BMW Z4 successor, sitting on an elongated version of the same jointly-developed platform. The exterior designs will apparently be completely different too; we’re still hoping that the Supra looks something like the gorgeous FT-1 concept (pictured).

Sick of all the rumours and want Toyota just to reveal the damn thing? You’ll have to be patient: for both the BMW and the Toyota, we’re looking at early 2017.

Jia the Supra Fanboy

Wouldn’t it be funny if BMW killed themselves by shoving the M4’s engine in the Supra, and after the electric motors, made a car with 480-540 hp (that completely and utterly destroys the M4)?\
I can feel it. I CAN FEEL IT

This is not Supra and should be TS0xx rather, I think.

But what can you do to them?
You can’t shift properly with a dual clutch…
And I have no idea what you can do to a hybrid… I’m talking about modifications…
But I’m not hating, I love the look of it… Just talking about modifications
