Two Killed In Nurburgring Tyre Testing Crash

Two people tragically died at the Nurburgring Nordschleife on Wednesday during Industry Pool tyre testing. The men, aged 39 and 44, were reportedly travelling in a Porsche 911 when the incident occurred. According to witnesses, this was a single-car accident where the vehicle overturned several times and the occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

It’s reported the high-speed crash happened at the end of the Döttinger Hohe straight. Goodyear Germany said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened that two Luxembourg-based Goodyear associates passed away on August 9 following a vehicle incident that occurred at a test track in Germany. We are assisting the local authorities with the investigation. Our immediate concern is for our associates’ family and friends, as well as their co-workers in Luxembourg." 

Industry Pool sessions allow manufacturers to test and develop new technology. These sessions are generally followed by public laps but following the incident, tourist laps were cancelled on Wednesday.

According to police, during tourist rides last year there were 77 injury-causing accidents at the track, including one fatality. Serious accidents during commercial testing are very rare so a full investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident. Reports state emergency services were on the scene immediately but were unable to save the driver and passenger.
