Watch And Hear The New Toyota Supra In Action For The First Time

Yes, the actual MkV Toyota Supra has been caught on video, giving us our first chance to hear its powertrain

Just a couple of weeks after being snapped by spy photographers, the all-new Toyota Supra has been spotted again - and this time it was caught on video.

It certainly sounds like it’s packing six-cylinder power, potentially a straight-six. Listen carefully, and you’ll also hear a faint whine which might belong to an electric motor, adding credence to all those rumours that the new Supra will be a hybrid. Power wise, we can expect the package to put out around 400bhp.

As a reminder, Toyota is developing this brand new sports car with BMW - hence why the mule was spotted leaving and entering the BMW M Test Center at the Nurburgring. BMW’s end of the deal will be a soft top likely to be christened ‘Z5’, while Toyota’s version will be a tin top.

Although the revival of the name ‘Supra’ hasn’t been confirmed for the car, it’s deemed highly likely judging by comments from Toyota’s top brass and the decision to trademark ‘Toyota Supra’ in Europe earlier this year. The car should look something like Toyota’s FT-1 concept (above).

Glad it’s an inline 6 not one of Toyotas hideous sounding V6s.

According to some guy on the MotorAuthority facebook page, he says he has friends in the Toyota-BMW R&D division who told him that this model isn’t a Supra but some sort of a higher spec or replacement model to the Toyota GT86. I didn’t screenshot his comment but take it for what it’s worth.
The car is a tad too small to be a Supra for me.

Toyota has previously acknowledged that the Toyota FT-1 concept was made 10% larger for auto show purposes
