Watch And Hear The New Toyota Supra In Action For The First Time

Yes, the actual MkV Toyota Supra has been caught on video, giving us our first chance to hear its powertrain

Just a couple of weeks after being snapped by spy photographers, the all-new Toyota Supra has been spotted again - and this time it was caught on video.

It certainly sounds like it’s packing six-cylinder power, potentially a straight-six. Listen carefully, and you’ll also hear a faint whine which might belong to an electric motor, adding credence to all those rumours that the new Supra will be a hybrid. Power wise, we can expect the package to put out around 400bhp.

As a reminder, Toyota is developing this brand new sports car with BMW - hence why the mule was spotted leaving and entering the BMW M Test Center at the Nurburgring. BMW’s end of the deal will be a soft top likely to be christened ‘Z5’, while Toyota’s version will be a tin top.

Although the revival of the name ‘Supra’ hasn’t been confirmed for the car, it’s deemed highly likely judging by comments from Toyota’s top brass and the decision to trademark ‘Toyota Supra’ in Europe earlier this year. The car should look something like Toyota’s FT-1 concept (above).

Sounded like a supercharged BMW V10 to me. Anyone else?

in what world does that sound like a V10. Sounds like turbo straight six to me, maybe some hybrid hissing.

The number of people commenting on the design of the mule is too damn high! The only thing the final design of the car is going to share with this one are rough dimensions and some proportions.

Horrible decision making on teaming up with BMW. Toyota needs to stop with this stuff and make their own cars. Nothing was wrong with the Supra before, just retrostyle the new one with an even better 2JZ.
