Watch Chris Harris Blat The Featherweight McLaren 12C GT3
Chris Harris got a call from McLaren asking if he fancied a go in its 12C GT3 car. Naturally he dropped everything, grabbed his race suit and took a direct route to Norfolk's Snetterton race track.
These GT3 cars are rather interesting. As well as McLaren, the series features race-tuned versions of supercars from the likes of Ferrari and Porsche. However, race-tuned means less power. Due to FIA restrictions, the 12C drops from 625bhp in the road car, to just 493bhp in the racer.
On top of that, gone is the incredible tech you'll see on a showroom-spec Macca - the trick suspension is replaced with traditional springs and dampers, and the dual clutch gearbox is swapped for a full sequential 'box with paddles behind the wheel.
With less power and physics-defying tech, is the GT3 as satisfying to drive as its road-going sibling?
