When All Else Fails, You At Least Have The Option Of Burying Your Car

With terminal rust setting in, bold used car buyer Tyler Hoover decided burying his 1983 Chrysler Lebaron was the best option...

I’m sure most of us have owned a car that’s left us at our wits’ end. The kind of car that just throws up problem after problem, until you completely fall out of love with it and would happily roll it off a cliff. But did you ever think about burying a troublesome car alive?

Tyler Hoover did just that, but then I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised - we are talking about the man who thought it would be a great idea to buy a $7500 BMW 850i. The car in question is a 1983 Chrysler Lebaron (yes, the one with the talking dashboard) exhibiting terminal rust. It’s too much of a basket case to fix up or even give away, so naturally the solution was to bury it. A process which looks weirdly therapeutic.

Of course this isn’t something we can recommend trying yourself given all the fluids and other nasty bits that’d be absorbed into the ground, but the LeBaron won’t be in the ground long. Hoover intends to excavate the car in a year’s time to see if it can be made to run. Assuming it isn’t flat as a pancake…

I really think that Tyler should see a therapist.

And that’s exactly why we enjoy his content

This is my Dad’s old car. His colleague has been driving it around for the last 6 years, and now it’s destined for the scrapyard as it won’t pass the MOT anymore. When I told my Dad that I really love this car (I spent half of my childhood in it ffs!) and asked if I could maybe have it, he told me: “And whatcha wanna do with it, bury it in the garden?” But that’s the last thing I’d do to it, although saving it (which was my initial plan) would be a financial disaster…

Buy it.
Restore it.
BTW that’s exactly why I didn’t let my dad sell his Lada.
Now it’s in a garage 300km and in the summer we are gonna continue with the repairs (it hadn’t moved from 2006 to 2016).

My dad has a 2008 suzuki alto(3 cyl .8 ltr , 5-speed manual) that things gonna be 10 years old. The car is showing its age , its demanding money now, so we are going to buy a jeep compass, i am going to turn 18 this march (in india we get licence after 18 only) and we will buy compass around that time too, but i asked my dad ,what will happen to the alto? He said we will sell it, and i said no, i will never, i have so much memories with that car, i learned driving in that thing, i will drive it even after having the compass and i’ll be getting buried in that . I am amazed by the fact that my dad bought it with his hard earned money and he is not attached to the car but i am, i love it so much!!!!

Sorry to say but attempting to fix the rust on that car would cost an absolutely ridiculous amount if it is even possible. Better to just say goodbye and move on.

Chrysler Lebaron #156.895
1983-2018

Here lies a slave car (1983 Chrysler Lebaron) , a car that was so useless and boring that the owner buried it alive. For us other car guys, it was kinda sad. But for the owner (who would’ve needed to give the dealer money so this slave car can be taken away) it was kinda fun and saved him money.
