Witness The Fury Of The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 As It Sprints From 0-180mph

Ahead of its 'Exorcist' tuning programme, Hennessey has put a standard, 10-speed automatic Camaro ZL1 through a tasty 0-180mph test

I’m sure you all know by now that the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is fast. We’ve pointed out before that its 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds matches a Ferrari Enzo, and that the manual will hit 60 in first gear.

But those were just words. We find a visual aid to be rather useful, and handily, Hennessey has provided just that with this 0-180mph test. The test used a stock car - ahead of the company cooking up its 1000bhp, Dodge Demon-baiting ‘Exorcist’ - and it’s seen gathering speed at a frightening rate. It hits 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds according to VBox data - a tenth off its official time - hitting its top speed of 179.8mph in just 26.2 seconds. Wow.

If the ZL1 is this fast, only the Lord knows what Chevy is gonna do with the Z28… 😥

the z28 will more than likely be slower in a straight line but be quicker around a racetrack

At this point the Camaro should be Chevys flagship car. Put the Corvette on the backburner. The most surprising sports car to be made is the Camaro next to the Demon but the ZL1 is track capable. Doing a 7:29 lap time on the ‘Ring is an amazing feat. I only hope the Z/28 is better is so many ways.

It has 10 gears for speed and efficiency. 1,2, and 3 are normal length like in a 6 speed transmission but 4,5,6, and 7 are very short and keep you in the power band, while 8,9, and 10 are taller for better mileage when cruising.
