Volvo 66 - The tiny tank

The Volvo 66 was a tiny family car. It was identical to the DAF 66. The car was produced in Born, The Netherlands from 1975 until 1980. Just like the DAF variant the car was available with a 1.1 and a 1.3L I4 engines. The 1.1L made 46hp while the 1.3 made 56hp.
The Volvo 66 was available as a two-door saloon and a three-door estate. The DAF 66 Coupe went out of production very quick so it was never produced as a Volvo.

The biggest differences between the Volvo and the DAF were all related to safety. The Volvo had bigger bumpers to reduce the damage in an accident. The car also had different seats with a headrest, a safety steering wheel, steel side-impact bars in the doors and a declutching servo which enabled the drivers to change gears while the choke was engaged.

Volvo produced 106.000 units. The car was only sold in Europe but funnily enough it was never sold in Sweden because the people there never accepted the 66 as a real Volvo.

That’s all for now, thanks for reading and have a nice day :D

Yup. It was build by VDL-NedCar. They currently produce most Mini’s and the BMW X1
