The 2017 Mustang GT v.s the 2017 Focus RS

Both are from ford, both are manuals, both cost around £30,000 ($40,000) and both are very blue! To bulk the mustang up lets say it’s a premium performance pack with leather recaro’s.

We now have countless reviews of the brand new RS, and have reached the climax of the immense hype that this car recieved. With that it’s fair to say that we all have opinions on the blue oval’s brand new hot hatch. It’s peppy 2.3 liter turbo puts down 350 hp and 350 lb/ft of torque. The latest RS is down 1 cylinder but up by 2 more powered wheels compared to the last generation RS, and is now available in the U.S.

The s550 mustang has been around for nearly 2 years now, and the 5 liter is still kicking with 435 hp and 400 lb/ft torque. The S550 mustang recieved its key upgrades in the suspension department, dropping the solid rear axle for a more refined independent rear suspension. This makes the latest iteration of the pony car more of a proper sports coupe rather than a straight line demon.

One tid bit of information that seems valid in this scenario is the tiers of these cars in the ford lineup. There is a base level with the likes of the mustang v6, focus SE, and mustang Eco boost, then the next level up contains the mustang GT and focus ST. The final tier is ford’s “performance lineup”. That’s where the Shelby GT350R sits along with the focus RS.

So CarThrottle, a 2.3 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder or a 5 liter naturally aspirated V8?

Ford Focus RS. If it was a Mustang Shelby GT350R I’d go Mustang, but the RS is awesome. I love the looks and sound

The mustang…the rs is impressive but eh…that price tag, you can buy a used sti or wrx and end up with a similar vehicle, there really isn’t anything that could compare to the 5.0, the power, the sound, the rs is more of a toy, the stang has raw power.

I agree! The potential strong point of the RS is that it’s a collectors item.

I had a mustang with a 5.0 and to be honest i would shy away from that its not like in the 80s when the 302 was a badass motor go rs bro

What was so great about 5.0 motors in the 80’s?

True. In a perfect world I’d take the RS as a daily and the GT as a fun car!

They were either a windsor or a cleveland one a high out put the cleveland or you got the standard f150 xlt windsor and those motors backed with a good holley or eldabrock carb would gladly take a massive beating from the drive and the 80s and very early 90s were cheap and easy to do proper badass builds with and still are

Mustang, more power, same mpg, great handling (especially when equipped w/ track pack), made in America, and those looks can’t be beat… unless there was a Camaro hehehehe

The RS. Everyone says the interior “feels” and looks more expensive. Like, the interior is more luxurious(?). Idk exactly what that means.
What about you take a RS for a test drive and a mustng Gt for a test drive to see for sure

Oh I’m not currently in the market for these cars! I thought it would be an interesting topic for discussion. In the future I’d take a mustang GT.
