Just finished watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, and I spotted a Ford Mustang 2 King Cobra in the beginning of the movie

An actual photo of the car from the movie, from the Hollywood red carpet premiere. Would have been a 1978 with T tops. In the same colours as Peter Quill / Star - Lord’s spaceship, the Milano.

I agree it was ok for the cars produced at that time. But after the period 1961-71 when we had the original GTO, 427 Corvette, Camaro SS, Chevelle 396, Hemi Charger, Cuda, GTX, Shelby and SCJ Mustangs, etc. etc. it was a huge let down. Power finally started to return in the mid 80s. Even the ‘Vettes of the bad period were slow. Younger folks today may not have the same historical point of reference to understand how wonderful the current horsepower war between the manufacturers is. It’s a special time. Enjoy the heck out of it while it lasts. History repeats itself and eventually speed may go out of favor again. Hopefully not.

True that it can’t be compared to the true muscle cars from before the oil crisis. However, it held it’s own for performance and sales compared to the other muscle cars that were kept alive. I can’t see another malaise era drop in power happening in the future anymore. Hybrids and electric vehicles have gotten very quick, so there’s not such a reliance on fuel.

As a 15 year old muscle lover, I just have to say that I wish I was alive during the late 60’s when muscle cars were in their prime

Agreed. My brother in law has a Tesla S. My Procharged 2012 V6 ‘Stang puts 415 to the wheels and has no chance against his Tesla.

That’s pretty amusing to me, especially considering that it’s a luxury sedan compared to a muscle car.

It does 0-60 in the low 3 seconds range because the electric motor’s monster torque is instantaneous.

That’s sweet.

More aggressive camshaft and timing. Bore and port the cylinders and stroke the pistons, to name a few. I’ve seen Mustang II’s that have had the motors replaced do 11s on the strip.

Nope, it’s just a photo of the same car from the movie.
