The Fastest Transmission: The CVT

I have heard that for diesel engines proper CVT can be bad as the engine rarely gets to rev out causing buildup in the engine etc. This is particularly bad when they are city driven most of the time! This would not occur with the stepped CVT (but as you say that totally defeats the purpose).

CVT is like the insterstate highway system. Efficient yet boring

That’s because car makes let it be.

A lot of people say how boring CVT’s are, I have one in my juke and It’s still fun to drive! Although I prefer the sport mode which has 6 simulated shift points to make it drive like a regular 6spd Trans, and sharpens the steering up nicely. It holds the extra power from raising the boost to too.

Honestly, I rather the real automatic gearbox compared to CVT. The sound automatics make is superior to the wierd “single gear” sounds of CVTs. My daily Clio has 4-speed automatic and I love it like it is.

Hi.
I do not agree that maximum acceleration, at given gear, will occur at peak torque.
Peak power seems a better answer, no?
thanks

Very good transmission concepts but not well made, the CVT (atleast at Audi and Toyota) only lasts for about 200.000km then it has to be replaced even tho I like the concept and its perfect for a daily, I rather have a DSG

Still 100,000km longer than a Nissan CVT will last………..
