Riding Some Old Kawasaki Jet Skis: Fun At 40 MPH

After having some fun at Silverwood, today my family has been having some fun on lake Pond Orielle (pronounced pond oray). My uncle and aunt from Southern California were in town and brought their jet skis to ride on the lake. I remember my uncle’s son taking me out on one a couple of years ago, it was a two stroke and we ended up falling off. Now, I got to go ride one by myself. Initially, it was hard to control and seemingly inabalnced although it was really fast going straight. The jet skis were old by jet ski standards so the only way you could turn at speed was under power. After riding that, I found out the first jet ski I rode was the big papa 900cc and the other one was a 750cc jet ski. Soon, I was able to ride the 750cc. I immediately noticed the 750 was more balanced and not as crazy fast, it’s limits were very apporochable for a novice jer skiier. I have ridden a jet ski by myself before the Kawasakis but it was a newer one that was a lot easier to control and safer. By the last time I rode the 750, I was perfectly comfortable piloting at it’s limit and the novelty of it wore off. The next time my uncle comes to town with the jet skis, I’m hopping on the 900, because I’ve already tamed the 750.

This is a boat's wake, jet skiiers like this.

The water was fairly choppy so there were plenty of opportunities to catch air although achieving the jet ski’s top speed was out of the question. A couple of times I caught so much air that I thought I would fall off the jet ski when I landed it but I still stayed on. I never fell off the jet skis when I rode them although my mom did three times when she did. Jet skiing is easily as fun as driving a car fast, if not better. You are completely exposed to the elements and the wind, water is a lot more dynamic than concrete which means it could be glass like water for speed runs or choppy waves for wicked air time. Also, 40 MPH in a jet ski feels like 80 MPH in a car. Jet skis are the motorcycles of the watercraft world.

Do you guys like using watercraft? If so, do you like that or cars better?

There’s a lot less fear going fast on a road than on water. I do have fun on water, it’s just at lower speeds. Been canoeing and had countless experiences with water skis and tubes. I choose canoeing over speed any day. #NotAWaterPetrolhead

Going to a friend’s lake place on Monday at Lake Lizzie, MN. His family has 2 Sea Doo jet skis, one that’s 2-3 years old, the other one is a bit older, but is supercharged. That’s the one I ride, partly because it’s red, my favorite color, plus it’s faster and I’m the speed freak between the 2 of us.
