I now understand why english is taking over.
Everyone I know calls “Pop-up Headlights” “Schlafaugen” (Sleep(y)-Eyes)
I learned most of my car-knowledge in English, so now when I talk to someone and try to use some specific vocabulary I have no idea what the German word is.
I honestly don’t really get whats so funny about these words. I mean I get that they’re long words but still they’re almost 1:1 translations. Anyway might just be me being a German and having no sense of humor. :p
I’ve had to get Google Translate to pronounce some of the words for me. Didn’t help. She couldn’t either.
Haha 😂 Did you let the German or the english women pronounce it?
what about Blinker fluid?
Blinkerflüssigkeit
Well, some of them seemed reasonable, but as one has taken German in school, I am not a fan of them having to describe what the word means as said word.
German is all about adding one word to a another to make a new word. The new word makes sense but isnt completely new with another sound.
Kugelschreiber for example :
Kugel =ball
Schreiber = writer
In english Pencil
Kolbenrückholfeder and ölablassschraube, nice ones as well
👍
here in West Flanders (belgium) we call a headgasket: ‘join de cullase’ and pop-up headlights are ‘klapluchtn’
