Is Citroën C6 a Future Classic Car?
I remember when this car came out, everybody seemed to like the looks of it and it was basically a BMW 5 Series competitor, but only more expensive, probably not as reliable, but still a luxurious and interesting looking ride.
One of my neighbours also got one and I saw him when he brought it to the parking lot and I immediately asked myself “why the hell isn’t more people buying this beauty?”
But let’s analyse if the C6 is a future classic car, shall we?
1) It needs to be beautiful or have something interesting in the looks of it and I think we can all agree that it’s rather good looking. I am intrigued by that amazing rear window and not only that, but it draws some lines from the original Citroën DS.
2) It needs to be rare and this one it kinda is… In the time frame 2005 - 2012 Citroën manufactured only 23.400 models which is kind of a low number compared to what BMW sold of it’s E60 5 Series (1.359.870).
3) Is it technically significant? Well… somehow… most reviewers appreciated it as being a little bit ahead of it’s time with a lot of features that were not included by the competition, like heads up display, lane departure warning system, xenon directional headlamps, Hydractive 3+ suspension (also known as hydropneumatic suspension made famous by the Citroën DS) with electronically controlled springing and damping, and a rear spoiler which automatically adjusts to speed and braking. Stuff that sounds normal now, but for 2005 were really new.
Also the C6 was the first car to obtain four stars in the pedestrian test rating of EuroNCAP, due to the inventive design, where the bonnet pops up a little if a person/animal is hit, thus increasing the gap between the deformable bonnet and the non-deformable engine components below.
4) Is it usable and entertaining to drive?
It’s still a not so old vehicle and it depreciated kind of fast as you can buy an early model for around 7000€, but the later model still holds it’s price as it solved some problems of the car, but still we’re not really in the moment of buying this car with the idea that we’re buying it to make money with because it’s gonna become classic in 2043. All I’m saying is if you buy it now and plan to keep it in the family you might actually make some good money off it then :)
Entertaining to drive? I don’t know what to say.. it’s a luxury car, you don’t buy it to go rallying with it, but if you enjoy highway road trips I think it is. Reviewers said that the V6 engine is so silent that you can barely hear it.
5) Does it have a great badge on it’s nose?
I say it does! I’d certainly get one :)
What do you think, am I right or wrong? Are you going to jump on the hype and make some money off it when the right time comes?
Comments
i think it will be, it looks very different from anything else you see on the road.
indeed it is
In terms of uniqueness this car would be at the top of the list, the strange styling and quirkiness would get people talking about it for decades to come, I say it is definitely a future classic.
Well now we know how we could make some fair money in the future :D Until then we could invest in a XM
“5) Does it have a great badge on it’s nose?

I think it fails here. I never heard someone saying “ i really want a Citroen”. Also they tried to make a luxurious car, but in the end it’s still a Citroen. People who want to drive a luxurious car usually buy Benz, BMW, Audi etc. but not Citroen.
This includes me. I would never buy a Citroen for that price, but rather go for a Volvo or Bimmer
you certainly didn’t get the idea then… I was talking from a heritage perspective and Citroen has lots of heritage last time I checked.
But that’s the reason it’s a classic! it’s rare and different to mercs, BMW’s and audis and this is citroens signuature dish.
How the hell can you look at something so ugly and call it a future classic? The f*ck.
That curved rear window alone makes it ‘classic’ material
It sure is! I’m watching the C6 my neighbour got more than my car right now… that rear window is so pretty ❤️
I love it. I think people talks sh*t about Citroëns all the time, but this it’s a great brand with lovely cars. I love their minivans (sold here in LatAm) and the C4 VTS; I would love to have one someday, and their pack’d with technology that other cars won’t even think about it.Let’s not forget about all the great cars Citroën has make: 2CV, Mehari, Saxo (rally heritage anyone?)…
Sebastien Loeb drove a Citroën for a few years winning absolutely every stage on the WRC.
I love this cars, i would certainly love to have one of these one day, too bad they’re were not sold here.
What engines did it come with, and by the way I do like these things, they heart back to Citerons old and floaty cars like the CX
Wikipedia says: “The C6 is powered by either a 3.0 L ES9 V6 producing 211 PS (155 kW; 208 hp) or a 2.7 L V6 HDi diesel producing 204 PS (150 kW; 201 hp). In October 2006 a 2.2 L HDi producing 170 PS (125 kW; 168 hp) with FAP, four cylinders and a dual turbo was introduced. In June 2009 the new 3.0 L V6 HDi diesel producing 240 PS (177 kW; 237 hp) replaced the 2.7 L V6 HDi.”
It has loads of potential for it! No doubt it stands out from the other cars produced ten years ago.
Someone brought one to a nearby Cars and Coffee last week, so it seems it’s already begun.
Well slowly… Citroen made some previous similar modes which I think got lots of chances to become classic pretty soon as well.
It’s a competitor but all those fancy electronics break because that’s wat electronics do and that will be a pain to repair
