I was getting a driving lesson yesterday (because i don’t have a license and I have to do it) and the instructor told me to keep it standing still in a hill using the clutch instead of the brake. Of course I did it, because I had to, but it was painful. Thank f*ck it was just a VW Golf Plus.

Also, whilst making a video on prolonging the effects of wear on transmission.. Don’t excessively wear the ratchet on your handbrake. I.e push the button whilst engaging, also don’t pull it like you’re trying to rip it off.

How stupid can you be???

If you rest your hand on the gearshift there is pressure on the gear wheel selector??
Oh my god!!

Nothing more far from the truth..
Between the gearshift and the actual gearbox…there is something called “the shift assembly”.

well driving in high gear while accelerating as hard as the engine can, won’t really do it too bad, unless the engine or gearbox is not up to the work, in that chase something is under dimensioned for the job.

Made a 665 km trip with my 88 volvo 740 and only went out of 5th when i had to go up steep hills or in to towns so even speeds as low as 35ish mph was a 5th gear job xD and this was in North-Norway so there is lots of hills and twists on the road, still managed to get 40,6 mpg UK 33.8mpg US 6,95L per 100km, now that was a hardcore fuel saving trip for me xD never been able to drive so cheap before :)

I really don’t get how not having it in neutral at a stop is safer. If you try to prevent the other car from pushing you in an accident, doesn’t that make you absorb more of the energy and lead to worse injuries? If you are only slightly pushed and even hit the next car, isn’t there more energy absorbed by the cars, making for a safer outcome?

If you are not leading the queue, that is.

I’ve seen a customer come to the dealership I work at complaining about loss of power when accelerating and shifting through gears at lower RPM. She told us she sometimes lets her foot on the clutch pedal. Her car was diagnosed with a worn out clutch and possibly flywheel. So case number 5 is something everyone should pay attention to, because it can get bad very fast !

GF was trying to learn to drive stick. She kept her foot halfway on the clutch CONSTANTLY and I kept telling her she couldn’t do that. Now she refuses to try again and accuses me of yelling at her that she’s doing it wrong…. Well, because, you don’t have to ride the clutch to learn how to drive stick!!!

Need a video “5 Things you should Never Do with an Automatic Transmission”…

1) Drop shifting.
2) Power braking.
3) Run it low on fluid.
4) ???
5) ????

Well, drop shifting basically covers it. I think I can blame almost every dead transmission I’ve experienced in the past (I had many) to my propensity to do drop shifts when I’m angry. I solved that problem by A) getting a manual and B) getting one powerful enough to burn out without having to dump the clutch.
