Help me work out the difference between a WING and a SPOILER... (more in comments)

This is how I think they work but I’m not sure if it’s right…

WING - CREATE DOWNFORCE
The wing directly creates downforce by deflecting air flow upwards which pushes the rear of the car down.

SPOILER - PREVENT LIFT
The spoiler is there to prevent the high pressure air flow from entering the low pressure pocket at the rear of the car. The air hits the spoiler and deflects it above the low pressure pocket preventing the car from lifting.

Does my explanation make any sense?

Not sure if I get it correctly, but in short: Wings make you corner faster (I assume if the car is RWD). And spoiler is to go faster in straight line. ?
