Unwanted Attention: What Types of Cars Attract Police? 🚔
Most of us have been in a car pulled over by the police at at least one point in our lives. It’s obviously not the most joyful experience in the world, and the car you’re driving has a definite affect on how much police attention you attract. That being said, which cars are the worst? Having owned a large variety of different types of cars from different eras, here are my experiences:
The Japanese Sports Car
This was my most recent car, and it attracted some serious police attention for being such a modest looking car (to my eye). It was almost completely factory, but it still prompted some friendly neighborhood officers to turn around to follow me for a mile or two on more than one occasion. The car wasn’t excessively fast in a straight line, and that’s probably what saved me from tickets.
Unwanted Attention Rating: 3/5 🚔🚔🚔
The Euro Hot Hatch
This one was surprisingly under-the-radar. Not once did I get hassled or followed by cops. My best guess was that either cops didn’t know what it was, or the silver color helped it blend in. Either way, this was probably one of my best overall turbo sleeper cars.
Unwanted Attention Rating: 1/5 🚔
The Old School Muscle
Although it may not seem like it, this is the best car I’ve ever owned for avoiding police “attention”. Even though it’s loud, fast, and red, I’ve never even been close to a ticket in it. It would be inaccurate to say cops don’t look at the car, but the end result is that I basically get a free pass since it’s a classic. I once drove past a cop with open headers, no hood, and no installed seat belts. They didn’t look twice.
Unwanted Attention Rating: 1/5 🚔
The Modern Muscle
I owned my Mustang longer than I’ve owned any other car, and it still holds the record for the most tickets I’ve ever received in any single car. I got pulled over for everything from speeding to dead headlights (and everything in between). This car was a complete cop magnet, and I was hassled to no end. I loved the car, but you couldn’t get away with anything.
Unwanted Attention Rating: 5/5 🚔🚔🚔🚔🚔
The Bike
While this one isn’t specifically a car, it’s still worth including. The color alone was enough to catch some sideways glances from johnny law, but I never actually received a ticket on it. That being said, riding it is just asking for a traffic fine.
Unwanted Attention Rating: 2/5 🚔🚔
What are you experiences with getting pulled over? Post them below!

I’ve gotten pulled over sitting at stop lights once in my 300, I only got a warning but I still have no idea what for….
For doing what?
Tried to catch you ridin’ dirty
In the reality you ‘slipped’ your clutch and did a burnout whilst waiting for the light to turn green. :D haha but for real did you get a ticket?
I get pulled over in my GTI almost weekly haha.
Mk5 once or twice a week
In the year or so since I’ve owned my Mk. 4 gti, I’ve done plenty of top speed pulls at night on the interstate, set the cruise at a speed that turned a 3 hr drive into a 2h 20m drive, ripping the brake in the wet, burnouts, etc. No tickets! :) I do between 5 and 10 over and pass cops no sweat, thing is invisible.
Under the radar in mk7
I feel like where I live it’s often big American SUVs getting pulled over by the police
i don’t think Dan Bilzerian particularly cares about cops though :P
Don’t just ask Dan, ask Hammond as well ;p
Both of my cars are a 0 or 1 out of 5
Your 2002 is a cop magnet though haha
Every BMW is a police attractor
In the year that I’ve had my BMW I haven’t even once gotten police attention
I haven’t been pulled over yet in my E39 or my E90. I sped past a cop going like 40 over. Although he was going the opposite direction from me so that might have to do with not getting a ticket that time
The funny thing is that I never got pulled over in my modified E30.
Now comes the really fun part: I also own a stock 1.4 Polo, and with that car I cant get past cops without being pulled over.
Oh the irony.
I had a e92 328i, I got pulled all the time and people would be rude to me for no reason. Now I drive a 350z and no cops pay me any attention and people are much nicer to me while I’m in my car. It still blows my mind. I love BMWs but the badge carries so much weight and stereotypes that I’ll never own another.
Everytime there is a cop behind me, or in front of me I get pulled over, might be because I’m just 18 and drive a bmw that I can’t even insure on my own name though..
Try a loud exhaust for 5/5. trust me.
Fitting coilovers in my city is instant felony.
If you own a WRX around where I live, you will attract more attention from cops than if Saddam Hussein were to go for a casual stroll in front of their shop.
A cop once walked up to me and said that my Fiero posed a fire hazard.
If it did, I guess I would have some bacon to fry with it.
Nobody insults my Fi Fi….
OOOOOHHH
Are you sure he wasn’t Gary Busey? You know, the expert car roaster?
I had a shop refuse to an alignment on my 87 GT. It’s hilarious how misinformed people are about Fieros.
Bluebird (my old fiero) we had a joke sticker from superspeeders [if on fire marshmallows in glove box] (burned 3 weeks later waiting at a traffic light)
My Fiero is now gone. But it was screaming yellow and got everyones attention. Got pulled over twice by cops claiming I had no insurance, first guy later admited that its because I was a teen in a yellow car. Only ticket I got was for “failure to maintain control of vehicle”, I was home and he pulled up 10 min later claimimg I drifted it… going 15. Fought the ticket, got bumped up $50 for arguing. Lol
Thats what I like about my explorer practically invisible. My brother drives a miata drives like a complete ass and never has issues with the cops maybe that’s becouse it’s so small they don’t really see it with all the big suv and trucks everywhere
