I love Nissans ATTESA system. My G35x has been through several blizzards and kept on going through even when other awd cars had no choice but to stop. It also helps that the car weighs a lot. Looking forward to testing out my FX45 this winter

Mitsubishi’s system for the evo 9
A bit overcomplicated explanation of relatively simple concept…
If we’re talking AWD systems in vehicles, I think the AWD in the FIRST generation Mercedes ML series fits the bill as a top contender. The mechanicals are identical to the G-Wagon except instead of being able to switch between open and locked differentials, the system on the ML is a permanent AWD system. The ML uses torque vectoring to maintain traction, which works well both on and off road! The only problem I found is that it gives you too much confidence and the next you’ll know you’re bottomed out in a mudhole in the middle of nowhere. :P I live in Northewestern Ontario which is pretty North and this vehicle will get you through snow like it’s on dry pavement. Additionally, the vehicle allows you to switch between “Hi” and “Lo” gear, changing the gear ratio. Lo-Gear works miracles off-road! The only limitations of this vehicle are that it doesn’t have enough wheel travel, that it’s too heavy for mud, it does not have good ground clearance (almost ripped off the rear bumper on some rocks :( ), and that it is a Merc, meaning most wouldn’t take it off road. Also, random note, if you do take it off-road DO NOTE: the gas tank, while made from the same military grade plastic of the G wagon, is the lowest point on your chassis BUT the important thing to remember is the straps, which are metal run laterally meaning that if they got caught on a rock, they can get pulled up and cut into your gas tank. I hope this helps convince you that the ML’s AWD system is AT LEAST a top contender for the best AWD system :)
Most of you don´t even know that TATRA designed best awd in 1923.
