Spending $3,000 on an NA build to bring my zetec Focus from 80 wheel hp to 160ish. At least that’s what it’s supposed to do when it’s finished. . . But 180 crank hp in a 2600lb car should be reasonably fun :)

My Abarth feels powerful with 210-220 bhp (chip, mods, etc)…. It puts you in your seat.

This insanity of 800 bhp “street cars” is … well… insanity.

its all about the power to weight ratio.

If its not really a sports car 150bhp is good enough. For sports cars minimum 190-200 bhp

The right power depends entirely upon what car it’s in. I want a Challenger, for example. It has to have over 400 at least factory rated, over 500 in the end would be great and usable enough to not be stupid. But 400 is the limit for my (eventual) project pickup truck. That thing can be scary with the 280 it has now sometimes (mostly in the rain). Wouldnt want it with anything over 425 or 440.

Likewise if I wanted a Lotus Elise or an SW20 MR2 around 300hp would be enough to be fun and usable without being crazy.

It all depends on the car.

300 wheel I’d say but power isn’t everything. Power to weight is everything.

That is not an easy answer…

While some may not find the 420hp Mustang GT insanely powerful, a 400 hp Lotus Exige, Caterham, Atom, Etc, would beat a lot of cars.

it also goes on how the power is used and what else is restraining the car, The McLaren F1 has 627 hp and can go all the way to 240 mph, while the new 650/675LT has more power and is relatively just breaking 200mph

So here is my little breakdown:

Under 2,000 lbs: 300 hp or higher

2,000 lbs to 2,500 lbs: 350 or higher

2,500 lbs to 3,000 lbs: 400 hp +

3,000 lbs to 3,500 lbs: 500 hp +

3,500 lbs to 4,000 lbs: 600 hp +

4,000 lbs or higher: 700 hp +
