Today's community question: What slow cars have fooled you into thinking they’re fast?

Pedigree, good looks and great marketing are very persuasive tools, something which Ferrari used to great effect when promoting the Mondial. Featuring styling by Pininfarina, an innovative mid-engined layout and a clever monocoque chassis, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Mondial was a proper little supercar.

Not so. With only 205bhp being produced from its 3.0-litre Tipo F106B FI V8, the Mondial had a 0-62mph time of 8.2 seconds. In other words a current BMW 320d could beat it away from the lights.

But Ferrari isn’t the only company to pull the wool over our eyes, so we want to know: What other slow cars have fooled you into thinking that they’re fast? Let us know!

Any Lancerother than Ralliart or Evo

When I was young, I used to think every coupe/cabrio/2 door car was the faster or performance version of its 4 door counterpart.

My n/a rx-7. When I got it, it ran like crap, and the suspension was screwed up. This became very obvious after I could barely keep up with a stock (or maybe lightly modded) civic on a curvy b-road.

Definitely the GT86. It is slow even for its 200hp.

The car is almost 40 years old…compared to other new sports cars of the time, the Mondial held it’s own. The original post betrays a lack of automotive knowledge of that epoch. Namely, EPA regulations - take a look at the Wikipedia page- there is comparative stats of other exotics and sports cars of the time…the Mondial was as fast or faster than the competition (sans 911) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_Mondial
