Today's community question: What slow cars have fooled you into thinking they’re fast?
Pedigree, good looks and great marketing are very persuasive tools, something which Ferrari used to great effect when promoting the Mondial.
Pedigree, good looks and great marketing are very persuasive tools, something which Ferrari used to great effect when promoting the Mondial. Featuring styling by Pininfarina, an innovative mid-engined layout and a clever monocoque chassis, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Mondial was a proper little supercar.
Not so. With only 205bhp being produced from its 3.0-litre Tipo F106B FI V8, the Mondial had a 0-62mph time of 8.2 seconds. In other words a current BMW 320d could beat it away from the lights.
But Ferrari isn’t the only company to pull the wool over our eyes, so we want to know: What other slow cars have fooled you into thinking that they’re fast? Let us know!

The 88 Celica Alltrac Turbo, stock 89 Supra Turbo, and 1988 Thunderbird turbo coupe were disappointing stock… But my 89 Probe GT, 88 Accord LXI, and my MAZDA RX7 turbo II were the opposite. Super underrated cars.

Lol any muscle car then
pppfffttt
“In other words a current BMW 320d…” Please stop doing this. The Mondial was produced from 1980 to 1993, obviously a car from 2016 is going to be quicker. Comparing old vs. new in terms of speed/power is so stupid. 99% of the time the new car will be faster, because guess what? IT’S NEW.
A 2010 Brabus Smart Car does 0-60 in 8.8, a mere 0.6 off the Ferrari. Does that devalue it or make it any less of a Ferrari? No it doesn’t because they’re from completely different eras. Please stop with the pointless, dumb comparisons.
Jeez didn’t realise the Brabus was that quick. Must be scary as f*ck to drive!
Well said Ross, you know your cars!

My little 1.6l toyota levin can chop them with ease
I’ve scrolled through the pages and I’m surprised the Peugeot RCZ hasn’t been mentioned. Looks like it should have 500bhp, yet it’s slower and more expensive than a 208GTI
