10 Times When The Universe Tried To Kill Our Unshakeable Love Of Cars
1. Cyclists ruining all our fun
If you are cruising down the road, feeling good and about to carve through your favourite S-curves, there’s a fair chance your drive will be tamed by some slow-moving cyclists. With no safe way of navigating around the riders, you’ll just have to wait…
2. Slow vehicles making us late
It never fails: if you are running late to get somewhere, you will be held up by another vehicle whose driver lacks a sense of urgency. Big rigs, dump trucks and school buses are often the culprits.
3. New tyres getting punctures
How many of you have experienced this first-hand? You buy brand new tyres and get a flat within the first few weeks. You can’t figure out where you may have picked up a screw since you’ve been super careful with the new tyres, but oh well. Plug it and move on.
4. Your polished car getting covered in crap
After a fresh polish on the car, you’ve got to take it for a spin to show off a bit. But wouldn’t you know….there’s road construction just around the bend. All that sticky tar and debris is now forming its own layer atop your precious coat.
5. An undercover cop pulling you over
Here’s why you never act like a d-bag when you overtake another car on the highway. There is some unwritten law of the universe saying that once you pass a slow car and keep accelerating in exaggeration, there will be a patrol car waiting to pull you over.
6. Bad insurance timing
As we age, one of the few things we look forward to is our insurance rates dropping from years of good driving. As luck would have it, you are more likely to get a ticket or have a wreck within mere weeks of receiving your next safe driving discount.
7. Jump leads MIA
Don’t ever let your mates borrow something then leave your sight. Chances are, if you lend someone a pair of jumper cables, you’ll need to use them a few days later for yourself. Nothing is as humiliating as asking a stranger to borrow something you should (and usually would) have in your own car.
8. Breaking down in the worst place possible
If you’re going to break down while driving, it’s going to be in the most inconvenient place and time. You probably won’t be located next to a service station, and your phone will have found the one place in the world where it can’t pick up a good signal.
9. You fix it, and another thing breaks
All those DIYers know how this works: you fix one thing and another breaks. Cars have feelings, you know. They tell us when we’re not paying them enough attention by acting up. After you perform a repair on one part of the car, another completely unrelated part will go bad just as soon as you’ve packed up your tools.
10. Parts on sale when you needed them most
After you’ve done some heavy research and compared prices, you finally decide to buy some much needed car parts….only to find that they went on sale or were cheaper on another site just a few days later.
