830bhp Shelby Super Snake Celebrates 60 Years Of The Mustang
We’ll forgive you if you missed the Ford Mustang’s 60th birthday. Celebrations had been a pretty lowkey affair from Ford itself, which introduced a nice-looking but rather underwhelming 60th Anniversary option package. Fortunately, Shelby has taken it upon itself to liven up the party.
It’s revealed the new Super Snake, the firm’s first take on the S650 Mustang. Let’s just get to the point - it’s got 830bhp, thanks to a gargantuan new supercharger. That gives it 330bhp more than Ford’s own most powerful offering right now, the Dark Horse, and 30bhp more than the upcoming GTD. Crikey.
It hasn’t just strapped a supercharger on and called it a day. An ‘extreme’ cooling system with a new radiator and heat exchanger is fitted, plus a Borla exhaust. Shelby has also retuned the suspension, fitted larger brakes and new tyres wrapped on 20-inch forged magnesium wheels - although suppliers and specs for any of those haven’t been revealed.
Bodywork changes are pretty significant, too. An aluminium bonnet with carbon fibre vents features alongside wider carbon fibre front wheel arches. Both bumpers have been reworked with more carbon bits, with a new rear wing too. Oh, and of course, the stripes. Those alone are presumably worth an extra two-tenths of a second on the 1/4 mile run.
You’ll also get a few interior goodies on your Super Snake, including new floor mats, a Shelby shifter if you’re going for a manual and a numbered plaque. A timely point to mention just 250 will be made for the 2024 model year, though no word yet on subsequent years.
Performance figures for the Shelby Super Snake haven’t been revealed, but assume a 0-60mph sprint close to three seconds considering the Dark Horse has been tested around the four-second mark. No word yet on pricing, either.
If for some reason you want all the Shelby upgrades without the extra power, you can opt not to have the supercharger and have the Mustang GT’s 480bhp. Seems like a complete waste to us, though.
