Alex Roy Just Smashed The New York To LA Record In An Astonishing 26 Hours And 28 Minutes

He said he'd never do it again, but after his previous record was beaten, Roy set about taking back his crown by driving a GT-R-powered Infiniti Q50 with a list of gadgets that would make James Bond feel inadequate
Alex Roy Just Smashed The New York To LA Record In An Astonishing 26 Hours And 28 Minutes

That extraordinary image above displays the ridiculous statistics from Alex Roy’s latest attempt at breaking the transcontinental record. The stunt requires highly illegal driving and we naturally cannot condone such behaviour, but there’s no denying that driving from New York to Los Angeles in 26 hours and 28 minutes is perversely impressive.

So how did he manage it? We highly recommend you read the full analysis on The Truth About Cars by hitting the link below. It’s a long but fascinating insight into what it takes to achieve such a feat, but in case you don’t have the time or the inclination to read through all that text, here’s the TL;DR.

NY to LA. 26 Hours. 28 Minutes. With A GT-R-Powered, Dual-Control Infiniti Q50. - The Truth About Cars

The old E39 BMW M5 had become too iconic, and Ray wanted to fly under the radar. The car he chose was an Infinit Q50, but it’s not what you’d call standard. First, an R35 Nissan GT-R driveline was swapped in, making more than 850bhp on full boost. Here’s where it gets crazy; Roy fitted a duplicate wheel and pedal system on the passenger side so that they could do a driver swap without stopping the car. There are also night-vision cameras, air-to-ground radios, multiple types of laser-jamming systems and even smoke grenades. The full spec list reads like a cross between a fighter jet and James Bond’s latest ride.

In his interview with TTAC, Roy explains how he explained to cops that no one could stop him, so it would be safer to work with him. Incredibly, about 30 officers across the country were on his side, aiding his journey. It’s a fascinating insight into the mind of a madman, and with such an incredible time set, let’s hope no one tries anything like this again.
