This Dodge Demon Is Ridiculously Outgunned By A McLaren 720S
The Dodge Demon is the hottest property in straight-line speed right now. You’ve already read about it being too fast for competition, you’ve seen it launch from a helmet-cam’s view and you’ve even seen it on Top Gear. But you haven’t seen it take on a true European supercar… until now.
Running on regular unleaded the Demon’s 6.2-litre supercharged V8 is down to 808bhp, but that’s still quite a lot more than the claimed 710bhp from the McLaren. The British car is lighter by over a tonne, though, and is $238,000 more expensive than the Demon, going by the figures quoted in this video.
While Demon fans will be crying out for the two to race from a standing start, these duels are from a rolling start on what seems to be the public road. The difference is massive; the 720S just walks away from the big Dodge. Even in the second race, where the Demon gets a much better start, the McLaren just disappears.
DragTimes, who published the video, will be filming a follow-up where the Demon is filled with race fuel and the full 840bhp tune is active. We’ll look out for that one, but we can’t see it being enough to tip the scales…

“The British car is lighter by over a tonne…” - there’s your explanation. Plus, the McLaren is, for a road car, an aerodynamicly very advanced car.
DragTimes also has tested the 720S against a 930bhp GT-R, and it completely destroyed it. Its aerodynamics, traction and power make it unbeatable nearly everywhere. GG to the 720S.
hang on, are they street racing?
well someones gonna get arrested
The demon is made for standing start. This post is another example of how much the Carthrottle team overvalues the 720s.
And i am not a demon fanboy.
Read the article, they acknowledged the fact that this is rolling start
Demon would have lost on a standing start as well, at least on the street . The video maker ie dragtimes acknowledges that as well . On a street the demon just spins all day while the 720s manages it very very well and that’s why they didn’t bother with a standing start .
Umm. the 4 other people and I myself would say that you are.
Even tho I love the Dodge Demon to bits, I highly doubt it can compete with any supercar to be honest. And it’s not like I am even mad about this whole thing, because technology evolves and so does cars. The Demon is just cool, and for a manufacturer to make something so balls to the wall is just something I value a lot.
F = m*a wins again….
It’s a no brainer. The two cars have about the same power (the 720S is seriously under-quoted), and the 720S is a whole lot lighter. The only way you’ll get the Demon to win is if you do a standing start, and even then, I think in a quarter mile it’d be a close call.
720S does a 1/4 mile in 9.9s
Deamon does it in 9.65s
So yeah it would be pretty close
To be fair, the Demon is only made for just drag racing.
Well, it WAS a drag race.
Did the demon have drag radials, if it did it would probably lose after the quarter mile
The sound of that Mclaren cured my depression
