This Dodge Demon Is Ridiculously Outgunned By A McLaren 720S
The Dodge Demon is the hottest property in straight-line speed right now. You’ve already read about it being too fast for competition, you’ve seen it launch from a helmet-cam’s view and you’ve even seen it on Top Gear. But you haven’t seen it take on a true European supercar… until now.
Running on regular unleaded the Demon’s 6.2-litre supercharged V8 is down to 808bhp, but that’s still quite a lot more than the claimed 710bhp from the McLaren. The British car is lighter by over a tonne, though, and is $238,000 more expensive than the Demon, going by the figures quoted in this video.
While Demon fans will be crying out for the two to race from a standing start, these duels are from a rolling start on what seems to be the public road. The difference is massive; the 720S just walks away from the big Dodge. Even in the second race, where the Demon gets a much better start, the McLaren just disappears.
DragTimes, who published the video, will be filming a follow-up where the Demon is filled with race fuel and the full 840bhp tune is active. We’ll look out for that one, but we can’t see it being enough to tip the scales…

The demon got smoked
Saying ‘running on regular petrol’ like it makes any difference
but the dodge demon has a 0-60 time of 2.3 seconds and 9.65 to the quarter mile while the McLaren 720S has the same 0-60 time but, does the quarter mile in 10.3 seconds. also, I would choose the dodge demon over the McLaren even though the 720S beat it on this occasion
The McLaren kicked the challenger’s ass!
Id rather have the 720S no matter how fast it is
Race starts at 4:40
So ya’ll can know just how much the difference weight
.
McLaren 720s: 2,829 lbs, with 710 hp = 553.3 hp per ton
Dodge Demon: (around) 4500 lbs, with 808 hp = (around) 395.85 hp per ton
Well the Mclaren still won
B b b b b but top gear said it was fastest accelerating car
Seems unfair. Should’ve been done from a standing start. That’s the Demon’s purpose. Judging by the road, they were probably already at 50mph. The 720 is lighter and much more aerodynamic, even if it has less power. A rolling race would definitely favor the McClaren. The same race with the 840hp tune wouldn’t make much difference. Certainly not enough to give the Demon a win.
Though as he said, the 720S still had the way higher trap speed that the race gas, ecu tuned Demon. So even then, given the Mclaren has a great start, The 720 could take that one too.
The video maker ie drag tines states that the 720s would have won even from a standing start . He even goes as far as saying that it wouldn’t even look like race from a standing start because the demon just spins and spins all day on the street while the 720s launches very very very well on the street and that’s why they didn’t do a standing start . Maybe it could win from a standing start on a drag strip but not on a street .
off course, it’s lighter, more aerodynamic, and the power difference is merely a post-‘94 NA6 MX5
