Learner Driver Passes Driving Test Despite Killing A Deer

Striking a deer half-way through your driving test is less than ideal, but if you keep calm and carry on, it's still possible to pass...
Learner Driver Passes Driving Test Despite Killing A Deer

I think we can all agree that the driving test is a pretty nerve-wracking experience. Even if you’re fully prepared, a pass isn’t guaranteed; even F1 superstar Jenson Button failed first time. Ultimately, anything can happen, so the most important thing is to stay calm, as demonstrated by learner driver Tom Lo when he took his test last week in rural Fingringhoe (stop sniggering at the back).

Half-way through his assessment a deer decided to test Tom’s emergency braking technique, jumping directly in front of his car. Travelling at 40mph, there was no time to avoid it, and he struck the deer head on, killing it instantly. Thankfully, Tom and his passenger got away without any injuries, and the car only suffered a cracked number plate.

Somewhat surprisingly, Tom’s driving instructor Robert Jezierski decided to carry on with the lesson regardless. Tom said:

“The driving examiner checked the car and then we went on with the exam. It was something I was not expecting so I was a bit shaken up, but luckily I wasn’t too shaken up to continue. I got this test as a cancellation, the next one was 15 June, so it was quite important to pass it before my exams.”

Thankfully running down wildlife isn’t considered to be an instant fail, so Tom passed with just two minors. This got us thinking; have any CTzens experienced equally eventful driving tests? Let us know in the comments below!

My instructor told me to drive past a stop sign without actually stopping because there was a stinking dead animal near by. Lol I passed it

Bahaha, in Hungary it’s like “So, here is the envelope” and you have passed… although I tried it the hard way… I failed 3 times, because “I felt that you didn’t stop at the stop sign, the car was slightly moving” and “I think you turned left too late, and the oncoming car had to brake” Which he didn’t, ofc… so yeah…

Not true. I went 30 over cause the road looked like an 80km road. The speed limit was 50 though.

Examinator didn’t even mention it but my instructor (sitting in the back) chewed me out afterwards. That’s when i understood why he’d been kneeing into the back of my seat at that point.

My driving instructor knew the guy who was giving me the test and I was his last test of the day before he was going to play basketball with my driving instructor. All I had to do was stop at a stop sign then drive up a hill (Like 25% of what the test should of been) and he passed me. I was like “That’s it?” and he was like “Yup, f*ck this place I have a game to play”

My driving instructor also knew the guy. That saved me from a fail because I accidentally went down a one way street. It didn’t actually pose any danger, as it was just a side street that acted as access to an apartment building (and a parking lot for said building), and it was a very quiet street. You see, the sign that was supposed to tell me that I can only turn right was ripped off, and the one that had the “no entry” sign on it, was turned to face the street on my right just at the angle where I, from my perspective, could no longer tell it apart from any other circular sign we have. Anyway, the examiner KNEW that the street was one way, so he made me pull over JUST as I entered it, he turned off the camera, made me back up, and then continued on with the test.

It would have been really crappy if he did fail me for that, especially considering that pretty much everyone ignores the “no entry” signs on one-way streets as small as those ones. No way in hell would anyone go around the block just to get to the parking spot that’s just like 15 meters into the street if you go down the wrong way.

I couldn’t drive my car during the test because it had historic tags… They never told me that I could not drive it…

I got an 81/100 with passing being 80. Parallel parking perfect. Speed and brakes perfect. Why the score? One hand on wheel, seat leaned a bit, looking at other cars and scenery and talking to the instructor deemed as distracted. Been driving since I was 12. I was too “comfortable”

Instructor had me drive in a completely iced over parking lot to show me how a car would react on ice. He made me switch seats with him because I never skidded or spun
