Learner Driver Passes Driving Test Despite Killing A Deer

Learner Driver Passes Driving Test Despite Killing A Deer

I think we can all agree that the driving test is a pretty nerve-wracking experience. Even if you’re fully prepared, a pass isn’t guaranteed; even F1 superstar Jenson Button failed first time. Ultimately, anything can happen, so the most important thing is to stay calm, as demonstrated by learner driver Tom Lo when he took his test last week in rural Fingringhoe (stop sniggering at the back).

Half-way through his assessment a deer decided to test Tom’s emergency braking technique, jumping directly in front of his car. Travelling at 40mph, there was no time to avoid it, and he struck the deer head on, killing it instantly. Thankfully, Tom and his passenger got away without any injuries, and the car only suffered a cracked number plate.

Somewhat surprisingly, Tom’s driving instructor Robert Jezierski decided to carry on with the lesson regardless. Tom said:

“The driving examiner checked the car and then we went on with the exam. It was something I was not expecting so I was a bit shaken up, but luckily I wasn’t too shaken up to continue. I got this test as a cancellation, the next one was 15 June, so it was quite important to pass it before my exams.”

Thankfully running down wildlife isn’t considered to be an instant fail, so Tom passed with just two minors. This got us thinking; have any CTzens experienced equally eventful driving tests? Let us know in the comments below!

Delightful Citizen (Classic Truck Squad)

It was a bright, beautiful Saturday that I took my driving test. Attempted to make small talk with the instructor beforehand but she was a rather crabby large woman so I didn’t get anywhere. Anywho, we took off for the driving portion of the test in my 2002 Ford Ranger sporting 270,000 miles and a similarly worn suspension. I was feeling pretty confident as I had been driving for years at this point (offroading, don’t worry). Unfortunately the instructor directed me down a poorly patched road.
We made it about 200 feet and the body roll was everywhere. She whacked her head on my window pretty hard (it cracked) and I stopped the truck and asked if she was okay. “You’ve failed the test” she told me.
I did a pretty fantastic slide into the parking spot out in front of the office since I knew I already failed. Good times.

My driving test was the examiner’s last one before he went on a skiing holiday, I think I know why I passed.

I went straight in a turning lane. Yet I got an 85, so I’m sure I did other things wrong I didn’t know about.

I failed my first time for avoiding an accident. I stayed stopped at a stop sign while the instructor impatiently yelled at me to go, as a landscaping truck went through the stop sign and T-boned a car crossing in my oncoming lane. She sucked her teeth at me, screamed that I failed, and had me drive back to where the test begins to drop her off and pick up my father. I had to wait the mandatory 90 days for a retest.
