The Mazda RX-9 Could Be A 400bhp Rotary Weapon
After teasing the world with the RX-Vision concept earlier this year, Mazda has got the ball rolling again with plans to reveal a successor to the RX-8 at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
Japanese website Holiday Auto has managed to get some inside information on the car, and the stats make for epic reading. The RX-9 could feature a 1.6-litre, twin-rotor turbocharged powertrain which should be good for at least 400bhp of rotary scream.
Those figures would make the RX-9 the most powerful production car ever produced by Mazda, but all this power will seemingly come at a cost. Estimations sit at around $80,000 (£60,500) which would make it nearly three-times the price of an RX-8. But for a return to rotary power for Mazda, I’m sure we’d be willing to pay the price!
Mazda has already trademarked the RX-9 badge, so fingers-crossed we will see a new rotary king by the end of the decade.

I would need to save for about 3 or 4 years for that car.
But I would wait until the RX9’s production ends, because the last models are always the best (and the most expensive ones)
why u do dis mazda,80k for a rotary,i could make a 500-600hp rx7 for that anf still have some good money left
Just remember… it’s all completely and utterly unconfirmed… Mazda stated recently they weren’t going ahead making one due to the financial issue and how they need to build their brand first.
And because the rotary is extremely inefficient compared to the modern engines today. Even so, no replacement for lack of displacement.
If people in the US can drop 70 k on a Kia, 80 on a Mazda isn’t asking much
Well, not that bad tbh, it does make 400bhp appatently, 80 grand seems okay for the market they are trying to go after, its not GT-R territory, its more into Supra territory. If you want a gt86 competitor, the MX-5 would be a much better fit than the RX-9, especially since the RX-9 is the performance vehicle, when the new Supra comes along they would have to start a new model all together.
